Kerala special Prawn curry/chemmeen curry (with coconut milk)



Prawn is a popular seafood. Try this mouth-watering Kerala prawn recipe.




Ingredients

·         Onion(Finely chopped)-2 medium sized
·         Garlic paste-1/2 tsp
·         Ginger paste- 1/2 tsp
·         Turmeric powder – 1/2tsp
·         Red chilli powder-1tsp
·         Coriander powder- 1 tsp
·         Garam masala-1/2 tsp
·         Tomato(finely chopped)- 1 large
·         Green chilli – 2 or 3, split lengthwise
·         Curry leaves- 2 sprigs
·         Kudampuli-2 pieces
·         Coconut milk(thick)-1 cup
·         Coconut milk(thin)-1/2 cup
·         Mustard seeds- 1/2 tsp
·         Cooking oil(preferably coconut oil)-1 tbsp

For marination

·         Prawns/Chemeen – 1/2 kg
·         Garlic paste-1/2 tsp
·         Ginger paste- 1/2 tsp
·         Turmeric powder – 1/2tsp
·         Red chilli powder-1tsp
·         Coriander powder- 1 tsp
·         Black pepper(crushed)-1/2 tsp
·         Garam masala-1/2 tsp
·         Salt to taste

Preparation:
  1. Marinate the cleaned prawns and keep it aside for 30 min.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. When it starts to splutter add chopped onion and saute it well till it turns light brown color.
  3. Add green chillies and curry leaves. After stirring for few mins add the ginger and garlic paste. Stir it till the raw smell goes.
  4. Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and the garam masala to it. Stir it for 5 mins.
  5. Add finely chopped tomato and saute it for another 5 mins. Mash the tomatoes well
  6. Add kudampuli, salt, thin coconut milk and marinated prawns to this mixture and blend well.
  7. Cook till the prawns are ready. Add thick coconut milk and mix together. Cook for 5 more mins.
  8. Remove from flame and serve hot.
