Chemmen fry / Prawn fry / shrimp fry

We keralites have a variety of prawn dishes but this recipe is my personal favourite. This is easy to make and tastes so yummy. The ingredients for this dish could be easily found in your kitchen. No need to grate coconut and get the coconut milk. Today am sharing this simple south Indian recipe with you....

Ingredients:

·         Chemmen (prawns) – ½ kg
·         Red chilli powder-1tsp
·         Shallots ( sliced )-1/4 cup
·         Ginger paste - 1tsp
·         Garlic paste-1tsp
·         Pepper powder-1tsp
·         Turmeric powder – 1tsp
·          Lemon juice- 1 tbsp
·         Cooking oil (preferably coconut oil)

·         Salt to taste

Preparation:

  1. Clean the prawns neatly.
  2. Mix together red chilli powder, pepper powder, turmeric powder, lemon juice and salt.
  3. Marinate the prawns with this mixture for 15-30 mins so that the flavours get absorbed well.
  4. Heat oil in a pan.
  5. Deep fry prawns till both sides of the prawns become golden brown. Remove it from the pan.
  6. In the remaining oil add sliced shallots, curry leaves, ginger paste, and garlic paste. Saute for few mins.
  7. Add fried prawns to this and mix well. Remove from flame. Serve hot.
