Dosa / Idli maav ( dosa / idli batter )



        Dosa is mainly a south indian dish. Everyone loves dosa. Soft and crispy dosa can be made at home. Nowadays ready to make Dosa batter is easily available in most of the supermarkets. But we can make it at home with few simple ingredients. The only thing we have to take care is the ratio of urad dal and rice used. It must be 1:3. If we take 1 cup urad dal then we have to take 3 cups of idli rice.




Ingredients

·         Idli rice - 1 cup
·        Urad dal -  1/3 cup
·       Fenugreek seeds - 1/4 tsp
·       Cooked rice - 1/3 cup
·      Water       

Preparation
  1. Soak idli rice,  urad dal and  fenugreek  in water for 6 - 8 hrs.
  2. Drain the water.
  3. Add cooked rice.
  4. Grind it  into a smooth paste by adding little water.
  5. Transfer the grinded paste into a container and leave it to ferment for about 6 to 8 hrs.
  6. Batter is ready for making  dosa or idli.
Note:

Add water to adjust the consistency of the batter.
For idli you need thick batter so add only a little water.
For dosa slightly loose batter is needed.
Cooked rice is added to make the idli/ dosa soft. It is optional.
