Kerala fish curry with coconut milk



Kerala fish curry is world famous for its spicy and yummy taste. Try this mouth-watering Kerala fish curry recipe.




Ingredients

·         Shallots(Finely chopped)-3or 4
·         Crushed Garlic -1/2 tsp
·         Crushed Ginger - 1tsp
·         Turmeric powder – 1/2tsp
·         Red chilli powder-1tsp
·         Kudampuli ( Fish tamarind)-2 pieces
·         Coconut milk(thick)-1 cup
·         Coconut milk(thin)-1/2 cup

For marination

·         Fish – 1/2 kg
·         Turmeric powder – 1/2tsp
·         Red chilli powder-1tsp
·        Salt to taste

For tempering

·         Cooking oil(preferably coconut oil)-2 tbsp
·         Mustard seeds- 1/2 tsp
·         Dry red chillies - 2
·        Curry leaves- 2 sprigs

Preparation:
  1. Clean the fish and cut into medium sized pieces.
  2. Marinate the pieces with the ingredients under marination and keep it aside for 30 min.
  3. Take an earthen pot. Add crushed ginger, garlic, kudampuli, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt to it. Add thin coconut milk and combine well.
  4. When it starts to boil add the marinated fish pieces into the pot. Let it cook for about 15-20 mins.
  5. Add the thick coconut milk and combine well and heat it for few more minutes. Stir delicately and switch of the flame.
  6. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and dried red chillies. When it starts to splutter add chopped shallots and curry leaves. Saute it well.
  7. Remove from flame and add this to the fish curry and blend well . Serve hot.

Note:


  1. You may use any other vessel instead of earthen pot. We usually use an earthen pot for preparing the fish curry in our traditional style.
