Chocolate velvet cake
Chocolate velvet cake is so soft, moist and rich with chocolate flavor. You dont need too much ingredients for this yummy cake. Hope you will try and let me know the feedback.
Ingredients:
- Maida / All purpose flour - 1 1/4 cup
- Sugar - 3/4 cup
- Cinnamon powder - 1/2 tsp
- Cocoa powder - 1 1/2 tbsp
- Baking soda - 3/4 tsp
- Salt -1/2 tsp
- Egg - 1
- Oil - 1/2 cup
- Buttermilk - 1/2 cup (Refer notes for how to make buttermilk)
- Food coloring (optional) - 1 tbsp
- Vanilla essence - 1 tsp
Preparation:
- Take a bowl. Add maida, sugar, cinnamon powder, sifted cocoa powder, baking soda and salt. Whisk together and combine well.
- In another bowl whisk together oil, buttermilk, egg and vanilla essence. If you are adding food color add at this step. Combine everything together very well.
- Now add wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix well. Do not over mix.
- Take a cake pan, grease it with little butter and line it with baking paper.
- Pour the batter to the pan and tap twice to release the bubbles.
- Bake it in an oven or on stove top till its baked well or a tooth pick inserted to it comes out clean. For me it took 30 mins. But it may vary depending on the type of oven used.
- Let it cool down.
- Garnish the cake with any icing of your choice if needed.
Notes:
- For making buttermilk just add 1 tbsp of freshly squeezed lemon juice or white vinegar to 1/2 cup of milk. Combine well and let it rest for 30 mins at room temperature. Milk will become acidic and curdle.
