Fish molee/Fish molly/Kerala style fish stew
Fish molee is a kerala style fish curry similar to fish stew in its preparation. Its mildly spiced and flavored with coconut milk. This goes well with chappati, appam or rice.
Ingredients:
- Fish - 2 big slice
- Tomato - 1
- Big onion - 1 medium size
- Green chilli - 2
- Coconut milk (thick) - 1 cup
- Coconut milk (thin) - 1 cup
- Pepper powder - 3 tsp
- Turmeric powder - 2 tsp
- Red chilli powder - 2 tsp
- Coriander powder - 2 tsp
- Ginger - 1 medium sliced into thin strips
- Garlic - 4 sliced
- Curry leaves - 2 sprigs
- Salt
- Coconut oil
Preparation:
- Clean the fish piece and marinate it with 1 tsp pepper powder, 1 tsp turmeric powder, 2 tsp chilli powder and salt. Keep it for minimum 20 mins.
- Heat some oil in a pan and fry the fish pieces lightly. Flip in between. Once done keep aside.
- Heat oil in a pan. Add sliced onions, green chillies, curry leaves, sliced ginger and garlic. Saute till the onion becomes translucent.
- Add 1 tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp pepper powder and 2 tsp coriander powder. Saute till raw smell goes.
- Add thin coconut milk and salt. Combine well. Let it boil.
- Add the fried fish pieces.
- Add sliced tomatoes over the curry. Let it boil for 2 mins.
- Lastly add thick coconut milk. Swirl and combine well.
- Check salt and spice level at this stage and add if needed. Turn off the flame and enjoy.
Notes:
- I used Neymeen/King fish for this one. You ca use any fish.
- Take care not to mix with spoon. Fish may break. Just swirl the pan to combine well.
- If you want to make it more spicy you may add more green chillies or pepper powder.
