Podi chammanthi for appam/dry coconut chutney

     Podi chammanthi may not be familiar for everyone but its a must try along with appam. This dry chutney is mild spicy and rich in coconut. Its very easy, simple and tasty.



Ingredients:
  • Grated coconut - 1 cup
  • Small onion - 5
  • Red chilli powder - 2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Dry red chillies -1 (optional)
  • Curry leaves - 1 sprig
  • Salt to taste
  • Coconut oil
Preparation:
  • Take a grinder and coarsely grind grated coconut, small onion along with red chilly powder and salt. Just crush it don't grind it to paste.
  • Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds.
  • When it starts spluttering add curry leaves. If you want to use dry red chillies add at this stage.
  • Saute for 1 min and add crushed coconut mix. Combine well and saute till the raw smell goes.
  • Switch off the flame and enjoy.
Notes:
  • You may use any oil but coconut oil will give the authentic taste.
