Mathi / Chaala fry (Sardine fish fry)



       Everyone loves to have fish fry. Mathi fry is a common sea food among keralites. It's a popular, cheap and tasty fish. We prepare mathi curry/ mathi peera but in particular adore mathi fry. Today am sharing this simple Kerala recipe with you....




Ingredients

·         Mathi (Sardine fish) - 5 nos
·         Red chilli powder- 3 tbsp
·         Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
·          Lemon juice - 1 tbsp
·         Cooking oil(preferably coconut oil)
·         Salt to taste

Preparation:
  1. Clean the fish neatly.
  2. Make slits on both sides of the fish.
  3. Mix together red chilli powder, turmeric powder, lemon juice and salt.
  4. Marinate the fish with this mixture for 15-30 mins so that the flavours get absorbed well.
  5. Heat oil in a pan.
  6. Deep fry both sides of the fish till it becomes golden brown.
  7. Remove from flame and drain excess oil. Serve hot.
Note:
1.       You can also use pepper powder.
2.       Vinegar can be used to replace lemon juice.
